Is a folder different from a Gmail label?

No. Folder is the word in the product. Underneath, InboxMint applies a Gmail label you chose or created.

Can I pick from folders I already have in Gmail?

Yes. Categorize uses a Select of existing folders, plus New folder. It is not a free-text guess box.

Will labeling also mark mail as read?

Organize files and archives Social/Updates out of the inbox. It is not a mark-all-read command for the whole mailbox.

Can I file instead of unsubscribing?

Yes. Keep the subscription and Categorize. That is the point of folders: keep the mail, move it out of Primary.

Gmail calls them labels. InboxMint calls them folders so the action feels like filing, not tagging trivia. When you Categorize a sender, you select an existing folder or create a new one — then confirm. Mail is labeled and can leave the inbox without going to Trash.

You are not stuck with InboxMint’s naming. The folder is a real Gmail label you will see in Gmail. Stop or Resume later from the dashboard if you used optional future actions. Starred, important, and VIP senders stay protected during filing.
